PG&E’s outstanding efforts in hiring and supporting military veterans on its workforce were recognized at a luncheon in Sacramento on May 13.
The California Employer Advisory Council, which works with government agencies and businesses on employment issues, named PG&E as its 2011 Veterans Employer of the Year.
PG&E has more than 1,200 veterans among its 20,000 employees. The company’s PowerPathway™ program collaborates with community colleges and other partners to help prepare California workers, including returning military veterans, to compete for entry-level jobs in the energy and utility industry.
In 2010, more than 100 veterans graduated from PowerPathway Bridge to Pre-Apprentice/Utility Worker and Bridge to Utility Equipment Mechanic programs at Fresno City College and American River College in Sacramento.
The company also supports veteran-owned businesses, spending more than $58 million with service-disabled, veteran-owned suppliers in 2010.
