SANTA CLARA—Saving energy and money is now as easy for PG&E customers as pushing a button—a green button.
That’s the premise behind a new technology announced this week during a Silicon Valley visit by White House Chief Technology Officer Aneesh Chopra.
The green button was the result of Chopra’s challenge last fall to PG&E and other California utilities. The button allows customers who have an electric SmartMeter to download their personal energy usage that can be used by third-party web developers to create computer and phone apps.
Chopra thanked PG&E Chief Information Officer Karen Austin for leading the collaboration with San Diego Gas & Electric and Southern California Edison.
