SAN JOSE—Tom Lyons calls himself an energy detective. And like any good sleuth, he was determined to solve a baffling mystery—his high energy bill.
Lyons, who lives with his family in the heart of Silicon Valley, soon found out that doing small things can add up to big-time savings. In one year, he has reduced his energy use by 17 percent.
While saving money is important, Lyons says his biggest motivation is doing his part to help the planet.
PG&E crossed a major SmartMeter program milestone in April, upgrading its 9 millionth meter. The technology is helping the Lyons family and other California households save energy and money.
