SONOMA — PG&E concluded its tribute to the military this summer at Sonoma Raceway by honoring veterans and local first responders during a pre-race ceremony at the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma on Sunday (Aug. 25).
Jimi Harris, PG&E’s manager of community investments, spoke to the crowd and presented banners signed by racing fans to the American Red Cross and Operation: Care and Comfort.
Like the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR race in June and the NHRA Sonoma Nationals in July, PG&E provided more than 1,800 tickets to active and retired service members and their families, as well as local fire, law enforcement and Red Cross volunteers. The ticket giveaway was part of the utility’s Heroes in Our Community sponsorship to give back to members of the military and first responders who serve their country and communities.
The race on Sunday also featured a hybrid PG&E bucket truck, which participated in a parade lap.
Australian Will Power won the IndyCar auto race, his third victory in Sonoma.
