After 22 years in the Air Force, Patrick Latour began looking for the next challenge in his life and the next opportunity for his family. A visit to PG&E’s website delivered both. This week, Latour and 16 of his fellow veterans completed the first phase of a unique PowerPathway cohort and joined the PG&E team as trainees in the Fresno Contact Center.

Crews from PG&E worked through the weekend to support first responders including CAL FIRE on three major wildfires in Northern and Central California. The company is also assessing impacts to portions of the electric grid damaged by these active fires.

Today (Aug. 6) was a big day for 100 Fresno youngsters. They graduated from the PG&E Summer Jobs Program, now in its fourth year, which provides training to prepare local youth for the workforce.

When PG&E’s Latino Employee Resource Group learned there was a need for long-sleeve shirts for Central Valley farmworkers, they immediately sprang into action. Within a few weeks, they collected about 120 shirts and 245 bandanas from members in Fresno, Bakersfield and San Jose.

The new electric distribution control center will help improve electric reliability and will be followed by two others slated to open in Concord and Rocklin by next year. Together, the centers will help PG&E manage more than 140,000 miles of electric distribution lines serving nearly 16 million Californians.

Aaron Lewis, a PG&E backhoe operator, was honored in Fresno today for his heroic actions that saved the life of a man injured in an accident. “It’s an amazing thing he did,” said Fresno City Council Member Paul Caprioglio. “I think it just represents what PG&E is all about.”

PG&E held the first in a series of open houses last week in Fresno and Caruthers to introduce a proposed electric transmission line project to the public. The line is needed to meet the growing demand for electricity in the Central Valley region.
