Since 9/11, members of the Blue Star Moms of Central California have collected dry foods, socks, books and anything else that could possibly fit into a postal box to send to young men and women serving in the military who will be away from home on the holidays.This year they found a new ally in PG&E.

Rudy Munoz-Pedraza spent part of his summer juggling jobs tossing pizzas and working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was one of 120 interns who participated in PG&E’s Better Together Summer Jobs Program, a partnership between PG&E and the Boys & Girls Club of Fresno County.

After 22 years in the Air Force, Patrick Latour began looking for the next challenge in his life and the next opportunity for his family. A visit to PG&E’s website delivered both. This week, Latour and 16 of his fellow veterans completed the first phase of a unique PowerPathway cohort and joined the PG&E team as trainees in the Fresno Contact Center.

Crews from PG&E worked through the weekend to support first responders including CAL FIRE on three major wildfires in Northern and Central California. The company is also assessing impacts to portions of the electric grid damaged by these active fires.

Today (Aug. 6) was a big day for 100 Fresno youngsters. They graduated from the PG&E Summer Jobs Program, now in its fourth year, which provides training to prepare local youth for the workforce.

When PG&E’s Latino Employee Resource Group learned there was a need for long-sleeve shirts for Central Valley farmworkers, they immediately sprang into action. Within a few weeks, they collected about 120 shirts and 245 bandanas from members in Fresno, Bakersfield and San Jose.

More than 20 elected officials and public safety representatives toured PG&E’s new electric distribution control center in Fresno today. PG&E’s Gary Cassilagio told them that the facility, which opened in October, already is paying dividends.

The new electric distribution control center will help improve electric reliability and will be followed by two others slated to open in Concord and Rocklin by next year. Together, the centers will help PG&E manage more than 140,000 miles of electric distribution lines serving nearly 16 million Californians.
