In a unique business arrangement, Fresno County Horse Park — one of the nation’s oldest competitive equestrian event centers — has leased property from PG&E since 1957. Through decades, the two have fostered a relationship that works. The collaboration is even more critical today as PG&E soon will start a gas pipeline construction project that will run directly through the horse park arena this summer.

PG&E and 15 other recipients were honored by the American Red Cross Central Valley chapter as Real Heroes on March 22. PG&E was given the Spirit of the American Red Cross award for coming to the aid of Northeasterners affected by Superstorm Sandy last fall and for its ongoing support of the American Red Cross.

PG&E honored a crew of electric workers who came to the aid of a fellow employee who was injured in an incident last month when someone intentionally drove into their work site. Said PG&E President Chris Johns, “These are guys who understand what it means to be their brothers’ keeper.”

For years, Eladio Castro, a PG&E gas distribution engineer in Fresno, believed there was an untapped market in local radio. So, after a Catholic radio station operated by a local priest went off the air in Fresno, he and a friend saw their chance and in 2008 launched Radio Guadalupe Mission Inc. The nonprofit radio program was named a winner of a $1,000 Power Your Community grant from PG&E after being nominated by Castro.

The success and benefits of the Home Energy Tune-Up program were touted Monday (Nov. 26) by Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin and California Energy Commission Chair Robert Weisenmiller at a Fresno home that already has undergone energy upgrades.

Students enrolled in the New Energy Academy program at Edison High School in Fresno will now learn in the PG&E Energy Lab, dedicated Oct. 31 at the high school. Representatives from PG&E and State Center Community College District (on behalf of Fresno City College) joined New Energy Academy students, school officials and teachers, as they celebrated with a ribbon cutting.
