California’s trees have had an especially tough run in the last year. PG&E’s vegetation management program has stepped up to help: It has partnered with California ReLeaf, a nonprofit that promotes planting and care of trees, to give $25,000 in Arbor Day-related grants to nearly a dozen community organizations across the service area.

As part of its response to California’s tree mortality crisis, PG&E conducted aerial patrols in Humboldt County today (March 10) to identify dead trees that could pose a wildfire or other public safety risk.

PG&E prepared for last weekend’s brutal storm using the company’s storm outage predication models to coordinate staffing and station mobile command units, and the company worked with partners Aggreko to have back-up generators ready in Benicia.

PG&E will conduct routine low-level helicopter patrols on Friday (Feb. 3) to inspect gas transmission lines for potential threats and future maintenance in parts of Humboldt County. A helicopter from Red Bluff will fly between 300-500 feet over Fortuna, Eureka and Arcata.

Nobody knows that better than Rebecca Murdough whose husband is a PG&E lineman in Eureka. She recently wrote a children’s book to help children understand why their parents sometimes miss holidays and other important days, all in an effort to ensure reliable power.

When Ryan Marruffo was in junior high school in Eureka, his father brought him into the office for “Take Your Children to Work Day” at PG&E. The youngster hated it. But his father’s commitment to customer service rubbed off on the younger Marruffo, who went on to serve customers in Eureka. Just like his father.

There’s an Earth Day-themed party at California’s oldest zoo on Sunday (April 27) and admission is free, thanks to PG&E. The zoo opened in 1907 near old-growth redwoods and is the oldest zoo in the state.
