PG&E Corporation Reports First Quarter Results

PG&E Corporation’s first quarter 2012 net income after dividends on preferred stock was $233 million, or $0.56 per share, as reported in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This compares with $199 million, or $0.50 per share, for the first quarter of 2011. Results for both periods reflect significant charges incurred in connection with the company’s natural gas pipeline operations.

The $100,000 Apps for Energy competition to create innovative, energy-saving applications for smart phones, tablets and other devices begins today (April 5). The deadline for entries is May 15. The contest, sponsored by the Department of Energy, PG&E and Itron, was announced last month in Washington, D.C.

VIDEO: Green Button Could Lead to Innovative, Energy-Saving Apps

Saving energy and money is now as easy for PG&E customers as pushing a button—a green button. That’s the premise behind a new technology announced this week during a Silicon Valley visit by White House Chief Technology Officer Aneesh Chopra.

The Green Button allows customers to download their energy-usage data, enabling them to becoming more energy efficient.

White House Challenge Met: PG&E’s Green Button Now Live

PG&E on Wednesday (Jan. 18) publicly launched its “green button,” an online tool that allows customers to download their own energy data to be used to develop third-party applications that can help customers save energy and money.

"PG&E" refers to Pacific Gas and Electric Company, a subsidiary of PG&E Corporation.
