PG&E Holds Open House, Launches Web Page on Kern Power Plant Demolition

On Tuesday (May 8), PG&E hosted an open house where customers and nearby businesses and residents could get information on the ongoing demolition of the Kern Power Plant and the cleanup of the site. PG&E also announced a new website as one of several options for residents to keep up with what’s happening at the site.

PG&E announced this week that is has paid franchise fees and property taxes of almost $286 million to the 49 counties and 243 cities where it operates.

More than 1,000 PG&E Volunteers Clean, Restore State Parks for Earth Day

PG&E workers, their families and friends – most wearing teal-blue company T-shirts – were armed with hammers, pruning shears and other tools as they broke through the morning stillness at 16 recreational sites. PG&E provided a $265,000 grant to the parks foundation and to participating parks for supplies and materials required to complete Earth Day and Park Champions Program projects and PG&E has given more than $1.5 million since the partnership began.

Calling All Solar PV Developers – PG&E Seeking More Offers

PG&E this week launched its 2012 Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Program, a request for offers that should lead the utility to sign competitively priced power purchase agreements for 50 megawatts (MW) of new solar PV projects.The program is part of a five-year plan by the utility to develop 500 MW of solar PV generation to serve PG&E’s more than 5 million electric customers.

Contractor Hired for Kern Power Plant Demolition

URS Corporation, also known as URS Corporation Americas, and its subsidiary Cleveland Wrecking Company, will handle the demolition. URS is a global engineering, construction and technical services firm that has been involved in challenging projects, including the Hoover Dam, the Trans-Atlanta Pipeline and reconstruction of the World Trade Center site.

Sierra Middle School Students Welcome Solar Shade Structure

Students at Sierra Middle School welcomed a shiny new arrival to the campus on Thursday (Jan. 19) – a massive 28-by-92-foot shade structure topped off with 44 double solar panels. The solar array is part of an increased financial commitment from PG&E to the school – one of 125 schools in PG&E’s Solar Schools Program.
