They may be young, but the students at Ophir Elementary School have more practice than even most grownups when it comes to responding to life-or-death emergencies. Their families have had to evacuate their city due to the Oroville Dam incident, as well as several wildfires. Last week, PG&E led an emergency preparedness assembly and gave fourth and fifth graders emergency safety kits.

September is National Preparedness Month, and with thousands of people recently displaced and widespread damage due to the hurricanes that devastated parts of Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico, along with the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that rocked Mexico City, PG&E reminds its customers to make a personal emergency preparedness plan and build an emergency kit.

With the use of helicopters, PG&E will be unloading electric transmission towers being disassembled near the Oroville Dam and will close off the area for public safety from July 24-28.

For the second consecutive year, employees from PG&E’s North Valley Division organized a food drive for the North State Food Bank. PG&E and its employees donated 120 frozen turkeys, dozens of hams and a variety of cans containing soups to nuts —2,776 pounds in all.
