Snow storms on Christmas day and today (Dec. 26) caused fresh power outages in Shasta and Plumas counties, where PG&E crews continue to work 16-hour days to repair broken poles and downed wires from fallen trees.

PG&E Crews Continue Restoration Efforts on Christmas Eve; Many Customers Restored in North Valley

PG&E crews worked on Christmas Eve to restore power to customers after a series of winter storms swept through Northern California over the last few days. As of 5 p,m,. today, fewer than 3,500 customers were without power in PG&E’s North Valley Division, which is comprised of Shasta, Tehama, Glenn, Butte, Plumas and part of Trinity counties.

PG&E to Increase Flows on Part of Feather River

PG&E will increase water flows in the Belden Reach of the North Fork of the Feather River in Plumas County starting Sept. 11. The higher flows are necessary so PG&E can meets its water delivery obligations as well as provide water for hydropower generation. The higher flows will be maintained until PG&E finishes replacing generator bearings at the Belden Powerhouse.

PG&E has seven mobile generators in place to power Quincy and Feather River Canyon communities should the Chips Fire damage both transmission lines powering those Plumas County towns. The generators arrived on Friday (Aug.10) and PG&E crews completed prep work on Sunday (Aug. 12).

PG&E Crews Clear Brush in Effort to Quell Chips Fire

The Chips Fire, which began July 29 about 20 miles northwest of Quincy, had grown to nearly 17,000 acres by Wednesday morning (Aug. 8). As a precaution, PG&E was arranging to truck in mobile generators to three substations so power to 3,400 homes and businesses can continue should the fire damage two 60,000-volt transmission lines serving those substations.
