With record-setting temperatures gripping much of the state, PG&E crews have been working hard to keep the power on. The extreme heat is expected to stick around most of the week and customers are being asked to conserve and keep safety in mind.

PG&E has begun daily aerial fire detection patrols across hundreds of miles of its service area. The patrols are to assist the U.S. Forest Service, Cal Fire and local fire agencies with early fire detection and response this summer.

The usual season opening of PG&E campgrounds associated with the company’s hydroelectric system was delayed due to storms this year. However, more are now opening as facilities and roads are repaired.

PG&E is using a contract helicopter service to fly foresters to check for trees weakened by the drought. Weakened trees and branches can fall into power lines, leading to outages and even wild land fires.

PG&E will increase water flows on the Pit River below the Lake Britton Dam from early January through mid-April 2017.

Recent rains have caused PG&E reservoirs along both the Pit River and North Fork Feather River to overflow or soon overflow in Shasta, Butte, Plumas and Butte counties. Those near the reservoirs are asked to be cautious.

PG&E will be flying low by helicopter in Shasta County on Tuesday (Dec. 6) to check for drought-stricken trees near power lines. Flights will occur over Round Mountain, Montgomery Creek and Big Bend.

PG&E played a significant role in helping spot and report wildfires before they could become larger thanks to daily flights conducted over much of the energy company’s service area in the past four months.

PG&E will provide higher flows on a portion of the Pit River in eastern Shasta County. The higher flows will occur from Oct. 24 to Nov. 20.The higher flows are the result of both powerhouse maintenance at the Pit 1 Powerhouse and for whitewater recreation scheduled Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 29-30).

When a land survey revealed that a Redding woman’s mobile home was too close to a gas pipeline, PG&E’s Annalesa Wagner had the difficult task of notifying the homeowner. But Wagner and her team got creative and it resulted in the company providing a new home for the woman.
