SANTA ROSA — Like an old-fashioned barn raising, hundreds of volunteers built a playground in six hours this past weekend.
It was a coordinated marvel as community members pitched in—from raking mulch and painting recycling holders to pouring cement and assembling the equipment. Some said they had never held a tool before.
“You did it!” Jen Gallagher yelled in a bullhorn after the hard work was completed. PG&E partnered with Gallagher’s Kaboom!, a non-profit that has built 2,000 playgrounds over the past 15 years nationwide.
PG&E is paying the majority of the cost—$200,000—to build playgrounds in Santa Rosa, San Luis Obispo and Fresno over consecutive weekends this month.
