On Aug. 16, PG&E celebrated the 40th Ruby Anniversary of the Helms Pumped Storage Plant at Wishon Reservoir outside of Fresno in the Sierra Nevada mountains. About 350 current and retired Power Generation coworkers, community members, vendors and government officials attended to honor the men and women — past and present — who have contributed to this engineering marvel. Since 1984, Helms’s 1,212 MW underground pump-generator powerhouse, switchyard, and 61 miles of 230 kV transmission line has delivered safe, reliable, clean, and affordable hydropower to our customers and hometowns.
As we celebrate National Hydropower Day on Aug. 24, we say cheers to many more decades of cost-effective, clean, and reliable hydropower from this vital clean energy resource.
